Visitors will delight in experiencing the entire gallery dedicated to this exhibit spotlighting the passions and inspirations of Broadway and the history of Dallas Summer Musicals | Exhibit opens to the public Saturday, July 31 through August 31

When: Friday, July 30: 3:30 –5:00 PM: Press Conference and Reception sponsored by The Fairmont Dallas
Remarks at 4:00 PM. Then Q & A.

Michael A. Jenkins, President and Managing Director, DSM and Bryan Embry, owner, Ross Akard Gallery will host a press conference and media reception from 3:30 to 5:00 sponsored by The Fairmont Dallas. Wine, refreshments, hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Media and VIPs will also be invited to tour the Broadway Suite at The Fairmont Dallas. It is filled with memorabilia in conjunction with the Ross Akard Gallery exhibit.

It’s is all about the Broadway shows and the beginning of Dallas Summer Musicals through today.

* DSM’s Tony Awards® on display
* FLOWER DRUM SONG – 2003: Colorful and bigger-than-life costumes, including the dress kimonos (very fashionable this fall) and dragon heads.
* Photographs and memorabilia from major productions that played at DSM. The performers create a keepsake for DSM, including autographs, items from the shows. Featured shows include RENT, MAMMA MIA, DAVID COPPERFIELD, JUDY GARLAND, CABARET, BOB FOSSE’S DANCIN’, JULIETTE PROUSE and more.
* Costume and pop art selections from BROOKLYN, MAME.
* Eye-candy: Giant PLAYBILL displays recreate the excitement of the shows.
* VIP Tour of DSM’s Broadway Suite in The Fairmont Dallas: Filled with memorabilia in conjunction with the Ross Akard Gallery exhibit.

During the past dozen years, while our Dallas Arts District blossomed, widespread interest in contemporary art has ascended to appreciable heights more than at any other time. An entirely new group of collectors from China to Russia have made sales for contemporary works soar at auction. The market for today’s art has become endlessly expansive and international to a remarkable measure. “Between the relatively new Design District, the Dallas Art Fair and the formation of several contemporary art groups, this region is at the crossroads of current trends in contemporary art,” says Nancy Cohen Israel. That’s great news for Dallas and our burgeoning art community with the success of the Dallas Art Fair and galleries opening in 2010 like Ross Akard Gallery owned by Bryan Embry. The new gallerist features emerging and mid-career contemporary artists with a special emphasis on local art.

tone spent well over a decade painting street graffiti and commissioned murals with other top artists of the genre in his youth. Since then he has shown in New York City, Los Angeles, Denver, Tulsa and Dallas among other places.

“I enjoy creating pieces that work on different levels. I want the viewer’s experience to change when a piece is seen up close, and as they gradually step back. I’m combining graffiti elements with blocks of images, and like the randomness that the string overlay creates. This provides coexisting complexity of detail and simplicity of composition.”

Larry brings his talent and exciting new works to the Dallas arts district’s first gallery in over 30 years. Larry’s organic sculptures compliment both the natural elements of minerals and the texture of stainless steel. Since the inception of “whiteley metal works” in 2001, Larry has continued to push the elements of art and design and truly has an eye for how nature combines lines and form. Along side other local artists Michael Ledoux, Julie Lazarus, George tobolowsky, Daniel Blagg, and George Fowler, larry comes to ross akard offering his unique style and a refinement of his working elements. ross akard gallery proudly welcomes larry to its space.

Recent Events: Zach Saucedo’s “Revolutionary But Gangster” Recap

On April 17th, Ross Akard Gallery hosted the latest works of Zach Saucedo with a show titled “Revolutionary But Gangster”.

It was a wonderful night of Art, Friends, Music (thanks to The Republic of Texas). The show looked great, we moved some art, and even had a last minute order to ship to Amsterdam on the day that we were taking the show down. Special thanks to Arreaga for screen printing a collaboration design with Saucedo so that we could hang and hand out FREE artwork to lucky guests of the opening night event.
